About the event
Join us for a powerful evening at Queer Lit as we welcome award-winning writer, filmmaker, and activist Curtis Chin for an intimate conversation about his acclaimed memoir, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant. Curtis will be in conversation with Manchester-based writer and LGBTQ+ advocate Jo Somerset, diving into themes of identity, community, family, and food.
Set in 1980s Detroit, Chin’s memoir is a vibrant coming-of-age story that explores what it means to grow up Asian American and gay in a time and place of profound social change — all seen through the lens of his family’s Chinese restaurant.
Expect heartfelt reflections, honest storytelling, and a celebration of resilience and representation.
