The Intermediaries – In Conversation with Brandy Schillace
Queer Lit | Monday 21st October | 7PM
Before there was Stonewall, before the word “transgender” existed, there was the Institute for Sexual Science—a radical hub in 1920s Berlin that offered gender-affirming care, queer support, and a bold scientific challenge to sexual norms. It was visionary. It was vibrant. And it became one of the first targets of Nazi book burnings.
Join us at Queer Lit for an evening with Brandy Schillace, author of The Intermediaries, as we uncover the hidden history of this revolutionary institute and the people who made it possible. From early gender-affirming surgeries to global networks of queer solidarity, The Intermediaries brings to life a world on the brink—both of liberation and devastation.
In conversation, we’ll explore:
The groundbreaking work of Magnus Hirschfeld and his collaborators
